Choosing Flesh or God’s Ministry

One day a friend told me she had the option of two ministries. Both options were good. Both would expand the Kingdom and change lives. One was in the Philippines working with children which was where her heart was. The other was working as a translator in Mexico because she was fluent in Spanish and there was a need. But she didn’t want to work in Mexico. She only felt she should because she was worried about missing God’s “perfect plan for her life”. She thought she might be “choosing her flesh” if she went to the Philippines…where her heart was. I told her she should choose the one she wanted to do and not the one she felt some sort of guilty obligation to do. God plants and then gives us the desires of our hearts when we are open to His work in our lives.

Forget about “shoulds” and “obligation” and “missing God’s will for your life”. If your heart is to serve God, then you can’t miss His will for your life. You can do whatever ministry is on your heart regardless of what it is. The choice is yours. God gives us options and lets us decide which one’s we want to participate in. Sure, there are times when He may have a single direction but that isn’t the norm. God wants to work with us and allows us to pursue our own dreams and visions. He gives us choices in how that will work itself out. And if we choose a ministry that turns out to be wrong for us, that doesn’t mean we missed God’s will for our lives. It means He took an opportunity to show us that it wasn’t our best gifting or calling for that time and that’s okay, that’s how we learn and grow and hear from God sometimes.

Hi there! And may God\'s peace be with you! This article \"Choosing Flesh or God’s Ministry\" came in perfect timing, as I\'m at that point where I need to choose a ministry to prioritize and fully focus on. I actually felt as well that the ministry I prefer to work on (where I know I\'m good at and brothers/sisters let me know I\'m good at) could not be the right ministry to be in since it\'s just what I want and could not be what God would want. But you\'re right, if my intention is to give back the glory to God through that serving then it shouldn\'t matter because in the end, serving in any of the church\'s ministry will contribute to the advancement of His Kingdom. I will also have the peace and freedom to serve joyfully, which the Lord is pleased upon - a cheerful giver. Again, thank you for this encouragement. May your good works touch more brothers & sisters in Christ Jesus and even would-be siblings in God\'s loving family.
